Prepare to face rising heat in Chennai
Dry weather likely over TN till April 16
CHENNAI: Day temperatures in Chennai, rising slowly over the last few days, could go up further after April 15, the weatherman has said.
The India Meterological Department on Wednesday also warned that day temperatures were likely to rise by two to three degrees Celsius in isolated pockets across Tamil Nadu by April 13. The warning comes at a time when temperatures were under control due to rainfall activity over many parts of the country.
Chennai and suburbs are likely to have partly cloudy skies with a maximum temperature of 35 deg C and a minimum of 25 deg C. Dry weather is likely over Tamil Nadu till April 16.
On Wednesday, Nungambakkam and Meenambakkam weather observatories recorded 35.1 deg C and 36.6 deg C, which were 0.6 deg C and 1 deg C above normal. Humidity too was as high as 80% and 82% in the two stations at 8.30am. It later dropped to 48% and 50% at 5.30pm. The high humidity levels made the weather feel hotter.
Earlier, IMD director N Senthamarai Kannan said, "There may be a gradual increase in temperature after April 15. This is normal for this season."
The absence of easterlies could lead to a spike in mercury levels after mid-April. "Temperature may rise more in the interior parts of the city compared to places closer to the sea as the winds will be dry," blogger Pradeep John had said.
