Mentally ill man kills mom, injures sister in Bihar's Jehanabad

PATNA: A 26-year-old man allegedly killed his mother and injured sister following an argument with them at Kosiyama village under Pali police station area of Jehanabad district on Wednesday morning, the police said. The deceased was identified as Kaushalya Devi alias Gorki.
According to police, the incident took place around 6.30am when the accused Sujit Manjhi, son of Yogeshwar Manjhi, attacked his mother with a sharp-edged weapon.
His sister Maina Kumari alias Tetri, who rushed to the spot to save her mother, also sustained injuries in the attack. When he tried to escape, the villagers caught him and handed him over to the police. The spade used in the incident was also recovered by the police.
Pali SHO Balbir Singh said, "When his mother went to wake him up in the morning, he got angry and had an argument with his mother. In a fit of rage, he attacked her with a spade kept in the house. When his sister went to save the mother, she was also attacked. His mother died on the spot, while his sister received serious injuries. She is undergoing treatment at Sadar Hospital."
The SHO told this newspaper that Sujit, who is mentally ill, has been taken into custody and interrogating him, and further investigating the case. The deceased's husband Yogeshwar said his son had tried to kill his wife also, but she ran away from home.
