Daltonganj: The additional chief medical officer (ACMO) of Palamu, Dr
Anil Kumar, who holds the charge of civil surgeon in Garhwa, would organise a
cancer awareness camp at Sadar Hospital, Garhwa on April 15.
Dr Kumar said, “I have invited Dr Sanjay Kumar Suman, head, department of radio diagnosis with Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (IGIMS)-Patna, Dr
Dilip Kumar from the department of pathology with Medical College, Patna, and Dr R N Tagore from Paras Hospital, Patna, to speak on ‘Cancer, early detection and the fight against it’ on April 15.
Doctors are confronting a rising number of breast cancer and cervical cancer cases, he said. “Young girls and their mothers should immediately inform their family members or doctors if they feel any pain or inflammation in the glands of the breast. Also, they should visit government hospital at once a year for check-ups,” he added.
Dr Kumar said 31 cancer patients in the Garhwa district were covered under the CM incurable disease and relief fund in the 2022-23 financial year. Out of the 31 cases, six were of breast cancer, four of cervical cancer, and three of oral cancer.
“People know that ‘khaini’, ‘gutka’, ‘bidi’ are injurious to health. But they consume these,” he lamented.
