PATNA: Covid-19 cases in the state maintained an upward trend with 57 new cases registered in a day on Wednesday. In the past one week, active cases have multiplied nearly five times in
Bihar as there were 236 active cases across the state on Wednesday.
As per the data shared by the state health department, of the 57 new cases, 34 cases were from Patna district alone, followed by Bhagalpur (9), Khagaria (5), Munger (4), Darbhanga (2), East Champaran (1), Nalanda (1) and Purnia (1). The new cases were registered against 55,347 samples tested in the last 24 hours.
There is a substantial increase when compared to the data of previous week. For instance, a week back on April 5, Bihar had registered 17 cases with total active cases till that day being 50, less than even one day's figure. The state was also placed at number 23 among 36 states and union territories in terms of cases registered in a day.
Now, as on Wednesday, Bihar was placed at number 19. Across the country, total 7,835 new cases were registered on Wednesday. Kerala was on top with 1886 cases, followed by Delhi (980), Maharashtra (919), Haryana (595) and Himachal Pradesh (420).
Talking about the increase in the Covid-19 cases, especially in Patna district, civil surgeon Dr Shrawan Kumar said instructions have been given to strictly follow the protocols, especially the use of mask in hospitals. Dr Kumar said this would help in curbing the spread of the virus. He even urged people to follow Covid appropriate behaviour.
