The day that fans of the Washington Commanders have been waiting for has come.

Owner Dan Snyder has reportedly reached an agreement to sell the Commanders to billionaire Josh Harris for $6 billion. Sportico reported Thursday that an agreement is in place and that there’s hope that a contract will be hammered out in the coming days. The NFL Network reported that the two groups are nearing a deal.

If finalized, the Commanders will be sold to an investment group led by Harris — a private equity mogul who also owns the NBA’s Philadelphia 76ers and the NHL’s New Jersey Devils.

The agreement comes after news Wednesday that Amazon founder Jeff Bezos does not plan to submit a bid for the Commanders.

Harris, though, had been long mentioned as a suitor for Washington. Harris has also partnered with Maryland billionaire Mitchell Rales and NBA Hall of Famer Magic Johnson to strengthen his bid.

Snyder has been Washington’s owner since 1999 when he bought the team for $800 million.

This is a developing story and will be updated.
