One shot dead, another injured in Dhanbad

Dhanbad: Armed miscreants gunned down one and injured another at Kurmidih under the Barwadda police station limits of the district on Wednesday afternoon.
The deceased has been identified as Raj Kumar Sao (35). The injured, Nagendra Yadav, has been referred to the Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (Rims), Ranchi, with multiple bullet injuries.
Police said Raj Kumar and Nagendra were sitting in a tea stall around 1.30 pm when two bike-borne assailants arrived and indistriminately fired at the duo, before fleeing.
They were taken to Shaheed Nirmal Mahto Medical College (SNMMC), Dhanbad, where doctors declared Raj Kumar dead and referred Nagendra to Rims, Ranchi, after preliminary treatment.
Prima facie, land row is said to be the reason behind the incident, police sources said.
Dhanbad senior superintendent of police (SSP) Sanjiv Kumar said, “We are investigating the case from all possible angles.”
Deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Amar Kumar Pandey said police have recovered four empty cartridges from the spot. “The deceased was a small-time contractor and we are trying to identify the assistants using CCTV footage,” he added.
