Pb VB summons Channi in DA case
Chandigarh: The Punjab vigilance bureau has summoned former CM Charanjit Singh Channi for questioning in the alleged disproportionate assets case. The senior Congress leader was asked to be present at the state headquarters of the vigilance bureau in Mohali on Wednesday.
On March 7, the vigilance bureau had also issued a look-out circular (LOC) against Channi to stop him from leaving the country. The former CM has been accused of amassing assets disproportionate to his known sources of income. It is for the first time that the vigilance bureau has summoned him.
The bureau has also been looking into the assets of Channi’s family and probing the allegations of diversion of funds by Channi, from an official function, for his son’s marriage. Earlier in an RTI reply, it had come to the fore that when Channi was CM, he had spent Rs 60 lakh on his food bill in three months, and in the run up to the 2022 polls, the tourism department had spent Rs 1.47 crore on an event in his constituency.
