Jaipur: A 75-year-old man on Tuesday lodged an FIR at Churu’s cyber police station stating that he received a video call a week ago in which a woman, who was dressed inappropriately, appeared on the screen.
The man said he disconnected the phone but later he received a call from a man who claimed to be an officer of the cyber cell in Bikaner.
The caller told him that the woman with whom he had interacted had lodged a case against him.
The caller asked for money, which the old man paid. A police officer, quoting from the FIR, said, “A man who claimed to be the SP of cyber cell crime branch in Bikaner called up the old man and said that the video of his chat was viral and a case would be lodged against him. The con said that if he wished to delete the video from social media he should pay Rs 21,500, which the old man paid.”
Later, the con again called to demand Rs 37,500, saying the woman had lodged a case against him, at which the frightened man once again paid, according to the FIR.
“Despite the fact that the man paid nearly Rs 75,500, the cons again started calling and asked him to pay Rs 54,000 more. The man was left with no choice other than lodging an FIR,” the officer said.
“We have registered a case under sections of IPC and IT Act and initiated investigations,” the officer added.
