Panaji: Referring to the recent statement of BJP state president Sadanand Shet Tanavade, Congress on Wednesday said BJP’s top functionaries should “display guts” in dealing with Karnataka on the Mhadei issue.
“The guts which Tanavade is talking about ought to have been shown by chief minister Pramod Sawant when he campaigned in Karnataka last month,” said chairperson of Congress media cell, Amarnath Panjikar.
The BJP leaders, Panjikar said, have got an opportunity to clarify on the issue when Union home minister Amit Shah will be addressing a public meeting in Ponda.
“Let them (BJP leaders) make a statement here, and in the presence of Shah that claims of BJP’s central leaders on Mhadei were not true,” he said.
In January, Shah at the public meeting in Belagavi said the dispute between Goa and Karnataka was resolved, and diversion of Mhadei water would be permitted to meet farming needs.
