The newest mid-size sedan, the Verna, from South Korean automaker Hyundai, has made ripples across the country since its launch. The model currently boasts the most powerful engine in its segment, and some of the previous champions of the segment were not happy with this. To determine who would win in a real-life scenario drag race, the previous segment champion, the Volkswagen Virtus GT, was aligned next to Hyundai’s new Verna. The results, without giving away any spoilers, are something you might not have expected.

The video of the drag race between the Hyundai Verna and Volkswagen Virtus GT has been uploaded on YouTube by Pratham Shokeen on their channel. At the beginning of the video, the presenter mentions that they are doing this drag race in an attempt to prove that a previous race between Virtus’ cousin Skoda Slavia and Verna done by another YouTuber was not correct and that the results would have been different. Following this, the presenter then introduces both cars.

Starting off with the Hyundai Verna, the presenter mentions that the Verna in front of them is the 1.5L TGDi turbo petrol engine-equipped variant, which comes mated to a DCT transmission. He then adds that this vehicle currently produces around 160 bhp of maximum power and 260 Nm of torque. Meanwhile, on the other hand, the Volkswagen Virtus GT in front of them is equipped with a 1.5L TSI turbo petrol motor that produces a maximum of 150 bhp of power and 250 Nm of torque. The Virtus comes equipped with a DSG transmission.

Following the introduction of both vehicles, the presenter then asks his friends who they think would win the drag race. To this, most of the friends answer that they believe the Virtus GT will be the faster car. After this, the presenter then takes the driving seat in the Virtus and starts the race. He first mentions that in the first race, both cars will have traction off and will be in the drive and comfort modes to keep everything fair. Following this, the race begins, and we can note that the Virtus gets off the line extremely quickly and takes the lead before reaching the 100 kmph mark.

However, just as the Virtus GT hits 133 kmph, the Verna overtakes the Virtus. They drag the race till 165 kmph, but the driver in the Verna applies the brake. The YouTuber claims that the Virtus has won the race. Following this, in the second race, the Virtus once again gets off the line quickly, but the Verna owner could not get off the line. After which a restart takes place, and the Verna once again becomes slower to take off the line. The Virtus gets to 120 kmph quicker, but the Verna then overtakes at 131 kmph and takes the lead till 178 kmph.

In the third drag race, the presenter then drives the Verna, and this time again, the Virtus wins in the initial part of the race as it uses the launch. However, after 150 kmph, the Verna takes the cake and tops out at 179 kmph. At last, they perform a rolling drag race from 20 kmph, and the Verna seems to be winning, but after 150 kmph, this time the Virtus takes over and leaves behind the Verna, reaching 186 kmph.
