Ludhiana: The protest of city businessmen from Mix Land Use (MLU) areas continued for the second day on Tuesday outside the office of General Manager, District Industries Centre (DIC) Ludhiana. Just like Monday, businessmen with placards shouted slogans against the government and sat outside the DIC office for one hour. Giving more information, Jaswinder Singh Thukral, president of Janta Nagar Small Scale Manufacturers Association said, “In wake of no response received from the state government on our demand of deferring the Masterplan 2023 for five years or declaring the MLU areas as industrial, we decided to continue with our protest for the second day. This protest by the small industry will go down in history as black chapter for Punjab.” According to Harjit Singh Panesar, another industrialist who was present in the protest, “There are about 72 Mohallas in the Janta Nagar and surrounding areas alone, which will be affected directly due to the Masterplan 2023 coming to end in September this year. As per the provisions of the Masterplan , from September onwards the factories located in the MLU areas will not be allowed to operate.” TNN
