PRAYAGRAJ: A group of female students of Allahabad University staged protest against non-allotment of rooms in the Priyadarshini hostel of AU, on Tuesday. Protesting at the main gate of Women’s Hostel, the students said despite the fact that they fulfilled all the norms and stand in the merit as per requirement of the authorities, rooms at the hostel have not been alllotted to him.
On being inquired, the female protesters told TOI, “On April 5, a notice was put up at the hostel wherein names of around 35 students were mentioned and the authorities had asked us to fill the form between April 6 to April 13. However, when we contacted the office on Monday, we were told that there is no room left and thus we will not be given an application form”. The agitators also went to the office of the Dean Student Welfare for not allotting hostels to the out-stationed students in the hostel.
AU’s public relation officer prof Jaya Kapoor, who is also the warden of PD hostel, said, “We are unable to understand why the girl’s protested. However, we have made it clear that we will be giving them application forms from April 17 and whosoever stands in the merit, will be allotted room in the hostel”.
