DEHRADUN: On Tuesday morning, the body of a 24-year-old man was flung out of a car by staffers of a drug rehabilitation centre where he had been admitted last month and dumped in front of his house here. Police believe Siddharth Berlan was beaten to death on Monday by the same people who had pledged to cure him of his addiction.
His relative Deepak Kumar said, "There were injury marks all over the body. He was bleeding from the ears and had deep gashes."
CCTV cameras on the premises captured the moment the body was thrown out of a car. His sister, who saw the rehabilitation centre men do it, was allegedly threatened by them before they sped away. Police have booked four staffers of New Aradhya Foundation Society Rehabilitation and De-addiction centre, where Berlan was undergoing treatment, for murder and other charges. They have been detained and are being interrogated.
As per Kumar, Berlan had been admitted to the facility on March 20. "His body was dumped around 7.30am in front of the house without a word to the family. We called up the centre's managers but they didn't respond. We then went to the centre but found it closed."
