A Port Arthur man has been indicted for his alleged involvement in a Port Arthur hit-and-run.

The 40-year-old man was indicted by a Jefferson County Grand Jury late last month.

Just before 11 p.m. on Feb. 4 Port Arthur Police Officers received a report about a major accident in the 2000 block of Woodworth Boulevard, according to a police report from the Port Arthur Police Department.

When officers arrived, they saw a blue Ford Focus in the middle of the intersection that was inoperable due to extensive damage. The driver of the vehicle was treated for her injuries at the scene before being taken to to St. Elizabeth's Hospital, according to the report.

The investigation revealed a dark colored SUV ran through a red light at the intersection before hitting the Focus, the report said. The SUV slowed after the crash, before driving away from the scene.

Police followed a trail of fluid left by the vehicle to the 3200 block of 15th Street, where they discovered an SUV with a Texas buyers tag matching the one that reportedly hit the Focus, the report said.

Police found the 40-year-old driver attempting to run away, because his vehicle was inoperable.

He was arrested for accident involving injury and taken to the Southeast Texas Medical Center for medical clearance before he ultimately was booked at the Jefferson County jail.
