LUCKNOW: Promising technical and academic support to UP government for new programmes, Unicef India representative Cynthia McCaffrey appreciated the efforts by the government in the field of social health, women's empowerment and Covid management.
During a courtesy call on CM Yogi Adityanath, McCaffrey said in past six years there has been a major decline in maternal, infant and neonatal mortality rates in UP. tnn
A vailability of health services has increased even in remote villages, she said. “The Unicef representative said that Unicef India is taking forward many programs in the field of social health, education, women and child nutrition in UP with the support of the state government. Unicef is also supporting the local administration in aspirational districts,” said a government spokesperson, adding that the CM and McCaffrey also discussed the status of ongoing programs in the field of health, education and nutrition.
On the work being done on Japanese Encephalitis in the state, McCaffrey said that the government had succeeded in preventing the disease, which has been the cause of untimely, premature deaths of children. She also called the state’s Covid-19 management “exemplary”. The CM thanked Unicef for its cooperation in the field of public health, including encephalitis, various water-borne diseases and Covid management. He said that UP has achieved remarkable success in the field of health and nutrition in recent years. “For 40 years, the death of children due to disease like encephalitis has been controlled by up to 95%,” the spokesperson said.
