GURGAON: The health department in a joint operation with police arrested a quack from Arya Samaj Mandir in Badshapur for allegedly cheating several women by guaranteeing them a male child if they took his medicines.
In a police complaint, medical officer Dr Harish Kumar said, “Chief medical officer (CMO) Virender Yadav received several complaints informing him that a quack — Mohammad Yameen of Tauru of Nuh district— is running a clinic in Arya Samaj Mandir in Badshapur and giving false hopes to women that they would deliver a male child if they took his medicines. He would be available in the clinic on the 10th and 24th of every month.”
Following the information, a team was formed that was headed by the CMO and had Dr Harish Kumar, Dr Ravi Kumar Dalal, Dr Urvashi, and Dr Jai Bharat as its members.
“We arranged a decoy patient and informed her about the purpose of the operation. After getting her consent, we planned to make her visit the clinic on Monday (April 10) around 1.30pm. The team along with the decoy patient reached near Arya Samaj Mandir and the team handed over Rs 2,000 to the woman after noting the serial numbers to purchase medicines and for the consultation,” Dr Kumar told police.
He said that the team members stayed at some distance from the location when the decoy patient met the doctor. She told him that she is already having two girls and this time she is pregnant again and wants a male child.
“The quack asked her some questions and then gave her medicines for 15 days, that contained tablets and a syrup. He charged her Rs 500 for the consultation. The decoy patient immediately alerted the health team who then raided the premises. We also recovered the note that the decoy patient gave the quack. Team sealed the premises and informed police as well," the complainant said.
Following a complaint, the police arrested the quack and registered an FIR under relevant sections of the Pre Natal Diagnostic Techniques (Regulation and Prevention of Misuse Act), Drugs relevant sections of Drugs and Cosmetics Commission Act, and 336 (whoever does any act so rashly or negligently as to endanger human life or the personal safety others), and 420 (cheating) of the IPC at Badshapur police station.
“We reached the spot soon and arrested Mohammad Yameen. Investigation is on,” an officer said.
