Mysuru: If you have lost your smartphone, ensure that they don’t land in the hands of anti-social elements by registering a complaint and then blocking the mobile device using the services of the Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) portal. This portal of a central government agency facilitates the user to block the phone remotely and prevent the finder or purchaser from using them any more. The agency can trace the phones, identify and get them, and later the phone can be unlocked and used.
City police commissioner Ramesh Banoth has appealed to citizens to use the CEIR webpage to trace their lost or stolen smartphones and to prevent misuse of their phones. According to police, as soon as a user loses his/her phone they must file an E-lost report using Karnataka state police mobile application and obtain an acknowledgement. Secondly, apply for a duplicate SIM card. Later, they may log on to the CEIR portal and block their mobile phones by providing necessary information like IMEI number, a unique identification number given to every smartphone. Within 24 hours, the mobile will be remotely blocked.
The portal will also help the CEN Police to know details about the user of the stolen or lost mobile phone irrespective of their location. TNN
