COIMBATORE: The cybercrime wing of the Coimbatore city police on Wednesday arrested S Selvakumar, vice-president of the industrial cell of the
BJP Tamil Nadu unit, for his tweet promoting enmity between two groups and an objectionable tweet against state electricity minister V Senthil Balaji.
Selvakumar, 42, is from Kalapatti in Coimbatore city.
A case was registered against him based on a complaint filed by R K Suresh Kumar, 54, of Ganapathipudur. The case was registered under Section 505 (1)(b) (causing fear or alarm to the public) of the IPC and Section 66 of the IT Act.
BJP leaders condemned the arrests. BJP state president K Annamalai tweeted that the DMK government was dreaming that it could choke the voices against it by arresting those pointing out the mistakes of the ruling dispensation. The BJP functionaries would not be deterred by such acts, he tweeted.
