Bengaluru:

BJP leader Laxman Savadi today quit the party after being dropped as a candidate for next month's Karnataka election.

Laxman Savadi, a minister in the outgoing Karnataka government is a loyalist of former Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa and a powerful Lingayat leader.

In the 2018 election, he had lost to the Congress candidate.

This is the latest revolt against the BJP over candidates for the Karnataka election.

Former Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar, who was among those dropped this time, is heading to Delhi to plead with the leadership.

Before him, another senior leader, KS Eshwarappa, announced yesterday that he was retiring from electoral politics. Sources say he had been given indications that he would no longer contest.

The BJP last night announced the first list of 189 candidates for the Karnataka election. Several MLAs have been dropped and Congress turncoats chosen.
