Rs 2 lakh each for kin of 3 road accident victims at Dikom

DIBRUGARH: The state government has announced financial assistance of Rs 2 lakh each to the families of the road accident victims at Dikom in Dibrugarh district.
On Monday, three women pluckers of Nahartoli tea estate were killed after being hit by a speeding car near Dikom bypass. While two women died on the spot, one died at Assam Medical College and Hospital.
The three, identified as Rita Bhakta, Sunita Bedia and Mina Bedia of Nahartoli tea estate were returning home from work when the incident occurred. Following the incident, hundreds of tea garden labourers blocked the bypass for more than seven hours. The driver of the vehicle has been arrested. The angry mob also set ablaze a police jeep.
