Two quacks, clinic owner arrested
Coimbatore: The Karamadai police on Monday evening arrested two quacks who were practising allopathic medicine at Velliankadu. They also arrested the owner of a clinic in which the quacks were practising.
Police said M Sathish Kumaran, 26, of Kattambur village in Sivaganga district, and G Bhuvaneshwaran, 28, of Emaneswaram village in Ramanathapuram district, claimed that they received their MBBS and MD degrees in the Philippines and were treating patients at a clinic owned by S Jayajothi, 35, from Iyyasamy Nagar at Jothipuram near Periyanaickenpalayam, at Velliankadu.
Based on a tip-off, joint director of medical and rural health services Dr Chandra inspected JJ Clinic at Velliankadu on Monday. He asked Sathish Kumaran and Bhuvaneshwaran to produce their degree certificates, which they failed to do, said a police officer.
Subsequent investigation revealed that Jayajothi hired Sathish Kumaran and Bhuvaneshwaran to pose as doctors. Jayajothi, who had completed only Class XII, impersonated a doctor and befriended government doctor Manoj Prabhu, who is presently posted at the Thondamuthur primary health centre, two years ago.
“He set up the clinic using Manoj Prabhu’s identity and enrollment number without his knowledge. He also owns four pharmacies in the area,” the officer said.
Health department officials seized allopathic medicine, syringes, and prescription pads from the clinic.
Dr Chandra lodged a complaint with police, who registered a case against the trio and arrested them on Monday evening.
The arrested men were produced before a judicial magistrate. The quacks and the clinc owner were later remanded in judicial custody.
