DIBRUGARH: Union home minister Amit Shah on Tuesday said the
BJP will once again form the government in 2024 and Narendra Modi will become Prime Minister for the third consecutive term.
Addressing a public rally at Mancotta field in Dibrugarh on Tuesday, Shah said, “In the 2024 Lok Sabha election, BJP will win 12 out of 14 seats in Assam and with over 300 seats, Modi ji will become Prime Minister for the third time.”
Taking a dig at the opposition, Shah said the more the opposition badmouths PM Modi, the more BJP will grow. He also questioned senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s patriotism, saying whenever he travels abroad, he criticises the country, which no patriot would ever do.
He said Congress has been wiped out off the northeast but if Rahul Gandhi continues to discredit the nation, the party will be wiped out off the entire country. “Rahul insulted India on foreign soil. The people of the country see and understand this as well. If he continues to spread lies and defame the nation, Congress will be wiped out off the entire country after being shown the door in the northeast,” Shah said.
The Union home minister slammed Congress, saying the northeast was once the fortress of Congress but it failed to perform in the recently concluded polls in the three northeastern states of Tripura, Meghalaya and Nagaland despite Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Yatra.
Shah said the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act has been removed from 70% of Assam and stressed that issues like insurgency and protests have become a thing of the past in the state and attributed the situation to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
S hah said the current situation prevailed because of Prime Minister Modi who worked to make the once trouble-torn northeast see an end to extremism and experienced all-round development. “Bodoland and Karbi Anglong have also become peaceful. Border disputes with other states are being resolved. Earlier, Assam was known for ‘andolan’ (agitation) and ‘ugrabaad’ (insurgency) but now, there is peace and people are dancing to the beats of Bihu music,” Shah said, referring to a mega Bihu event which will be held in Guwahati on April 14 in which over 12,000 dancers will perform in the presence of the prime minister. Shah also virtually laid the foundation of a regional office of BJP in Dibrugarh from the meeting venue. Union minister of state for ports, shipping and waterways Sarbananda Sonowal and chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma were among those present in the rally.
