THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:: The state government has increased the age limit for appointment of assistant professors to 50 years. Presently, the maximum age for the appointment of assistant professors in government and aided arts & science, training colleges, law colleges, Sanskrit colleges and Arabic colleges is 40 years.
UGC rules don't prescribe any upper age limit for the appointments in teaching posts. The government’s decision comes following the recommendations from the government appointed Syam B Menon commission on reforms in the higher education sector. The
Kerala state higher education council had also made a recommendation in similar lines. The collegiate education special rules would be amended accordingly, and the universities are supposed to make necessary changes in its statutes.
