A Groves man has been indicted after a crash has been indicted for a crash in Port Arthur.
The 26-year-old man was indicted for intoxication assault with a vehicle causing serious bodily injury in late March.
At 5:57 a.m. on Nov. 19, 2022 Port Arthur police received reports of a major accident in the 5000 block of Memorial Boulevard southbound on U.S. 69, according to a police report from Port Arthur Police Department.
When officers arrived, they found a black Porsche with significant damage and an overturned white Chevrolet pickup truck along the tree line of the highway, according to the report.
A police investigation confirmed that the man was southbound on Memorial Boulevard at a high rate of speed when he failed to stay in his lane, swerved in traffic and changed from the inside to the outside lane before crashing into the truck. This caused both vehicles to go off the road and into a grassy area along the highway, according to the police report.
The Groves man had slow, slurred speech; glossy eyes and was confused about what happened. He then refused any field sobriety test, according to the police report.
The man told police he took anxiety medicine an hour before the crash, and officers said he smelled like alcohol, the report said.
Both the driver and passenger of the pickup truck were taken to a local hospital with serious injuries.
The Groves man was arrested and taken to the Jefferson County jail.
