Mumbai: A special NIA court on Monday issued a bailable warrant of Rs 10,000 against a witness, a former ATS officer, in the Malegaon 2008 blast case for repeatedly failing to appear before the court. The officer, who is now posted in Akola, attributed his absence to bandobast duty. The court has directed him to remain present on May 2.
The ATS is the first investigating agency to probe the case. The witness had recorded statements of witnesses and was required to depose on this aspect. In November too the court had issued a bailable warrant against an ATS officer for failing to appear despite repeated summons. The officer was part of the investigations in the case.
