Samsung has released a major new software update to the Galaxy S23 series in the US. The April 2023 security update is now available for the carrier-locked and unlocked models in the Galaxy S23 lineup in the US, and it brings all the camera improvements that Samsung mentioned a few weeks ago and has already released to customers in Asia, Europe, and South Korea.

Galaxy S23 gets April 2023 security update in the US

The latest software update for the carrier-locked versions of the Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23+, and Galaxy S23 Ultra comes with firmware version S91xUSQU1AWC8. For the unlocked versions of the smartphones, the new software update bumps up their firmware version to S91xU1UEU1AWC8. It includes the April 2023 security patch that fixes over 60 security flaws found in Samsung smartphones.

To install this update, head over to Settings » Software update and tap Download and install. Alternatively, you can download the appropriate firmware file from our database and flash it manually.

The update also brings these camera improvements to Galaxy S23

The update also brings camera improvements, including faster delete operation for images and videos that were captured just seconds ago. It also forces the phone to capture a photo as soon as the shutter button is pressed, even if the autofocus isn’t locked. You can change this behavior from the Camera Assistant update (Camera Assistant » Prioritize Focus Over Speed ON).

After installing this update, Samsung promises that the Galaxy S23’s ultrawide camera captures sharper videos in low-light conditions in Super Steady Mode. It also explains that it needs more light to capture better quality videos in Super Steady Mode. The camera captures smoother videos in the 1080p 60fps and Auto FPS modes. There was a bug that stopped the phone from recognizing faces after a video call ends, and Samsung has fixed it.

Samsung has also improved the sharpness and fixed banding issues in the sky when 50MP and 200MP modes are used to capture images using the Galaxy S23. When the Night Mode is turned off, the Galaxy S23 should be able to capture images with better quality. The company has also claimed that it has fixed the blur issue for moving subjects.
