JAMSHEDPUR: Twelve hours after a communal clash broke out in Shastrinagar under Kadma police station in Jamshedpur, an uneasy calm prevails in the area on Monday. Several shops on the 1.5km stretch from Saraswati Shishu Mandir to Rani Kudar, which falls between block number 1 to 3 in the riot-hit Shastrinagar, remained shut. The internet services were also restored on Monday evening after 19 hours of shutdown.
There were no reports of any untoward incidents till the filing of the report.
The district administration had clamped prohibitory orders since 7.30 pm on Sunday and deployed additional security forces in the area. The locals kept themselves indoors although office-goers and those in the essential service sector were seen trickling out.
Avatar Singh, who owns an almirah repairing shop in the area, said, “I had to shut my shop but the situation is almost normal. Hopefully, normal life will resume in a day.” Though there is no restriction on the movement of traffic on the stretch, hardly any vehicles were seen as the area has turned into a virtual fortress by the presence of heavy security forces and the personnel conducting marches in the narrow lanes and bylanes.
The security forces deployed in the area consist of the Rapid Action Force (RAF), Jharkhand Armed Police (JAP), Jharkhand Jaguar (JJ), district police and Quick Response Teams (QRTs) along with riot control vehicles and police patrolling vans.
