LUCKNOW: The BJP leadership has decided not to give tickets for the local body elections to the relatives of the ministers, MPs and MLAs. It was decided at a meeting of BJP organization leadership and senior ministers held in the presence of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath at his residence 5, Kalidas Marg on Monday evening. The meeting also discussed the strategy to ensure maximum win percentage for the party.
A senior minister who attended the meeting said that the leadership took feedback from ministers and gave their valuable suggestions. BJP state president Bhupendra Singh Chaudhary and general secretary (organization) Dharampal were present at the meeting that lasted for nearly 90 minutes.
Speaking on the occasion, the CM said that the voter should be made aware of the work done by the Modi government and the state government. "Incharge ministers should ensure that the BJP wins maximum seats in the local bodies elections," he said.
Chaudhary said that the incharge ministers have the added responsibility to ensure winnable candidates get the ticket. The incharge should also ensure that those who could not get the ticket are not dissatisfied and effort should be made they also work for the party's victory.
The BJP leadership was categorical in its statement that no MP, MLA and minister should lobby for their kin.
Also present at the meeting were two deputy CMs -- Keshav Prasad Maurya and Brajesh Pathak. What is being viewed as a new experiment for better coordination between the government and the organization, the leadership also decided that the ministers incharge of the districts would also be responsible for the organizational work of the party in their jurisdiction.
The ministers were directed that they have the responsibility not only to look after the districts of which they are the incharge but also of their native district. "Everyone should ensure that the party wins all the 762 urban local bodies, including 17 municipal corporations," they were told. It should be noted that each cabinet minister and minister with independent charge has been made incharge of at least two districts while the ministers of state have been vested with the responsibility of one district.
