10-15 days needed to repair Mapusa pipeline: Khaunte
Tourism minister Rohan Khaunte and Saligao MLA Kedar Naik visited the pumping station at Guirim to check the effect of damaged pipeline
Panaji: After a visit to the pumping station at Guirim on Tuesday, tourism minister Rohan Khaunte said that 10 to 15 days will be needed to repair the pipeline at Cunchelim, Mapusa, a crucial water supply link from Tillari to Guirim and Porvorim.
Khaunte was accompanied by Saligao MLA Kedar Naik, with a part of his constituency also affected by the damage to the pipeline.
Khaunte said he has spoken to water resources minister Subhash Shirodkar about increasing the raw water supply to Assonora.
“I have also asked PWD minister Nilesh Cabral to review the distribution plan of treated water to Porvorim and Saligao,” Khaunte said.
To mitigate similar problems in future, Khaunte said, the WRD has tendered work to lay a separate pipeline from Amthane to Guirim. It will be an alternate source of raw water if there is a breakdown at the Tillari project.
Shirodkar has been asked to expedite the repairs of the pipeline and the PWD minister has been asked to supply tanker water to the affected areas in Porvorim.
