NOIDA: The two-year-old girl whose body cops recovered from a bag in her neighbour's house in Devla village on Sunday was strangulated, a postmortem confirmed. The postmortem did not find any other injuries or evidence of sexual assault, said cops.
The girl, the daughter of daily wage labourer, had gone missing on April 7.
Police said the accused neighbour had been helping locals search for her for three days before fleeing on Sunday morning when a foul smell started coming from his house.
A police team later broke into his house and found the body in a laptop bag, hanging from the back of the door along with some clothes, said DCP (central Noida) Rambadan Singh.
Police teams are now looking for the accused, with a team sent to the suspect's hometown, Balia. "We found the house belongs to Raghuvendra, also known as Raghu. He used to live with his wife and two kids. While his wife was not home for the past 20 days, he left his home on Sunday morning. Raghu took an active part in the search, along with the girl's father, for the past two days," Singh said.
According to the deceased's uncle, Raghu and the girl's father got along. "Raghu took part in the search with us, and no one could have suspected that the girl would be found dead at his home," he said.
Police initially filed an FIR under IPC Section 363 (missing person) at the Surajpur Police Station on April 7 after a complaint from the family. Later, they added IPC Section 302 (murder) to the FIR, and four police teams are now looking for the suspect.
"It seems that Raghu did not get a chance to hide the girl's body and decided to flee from the spot after the body started decomposing and smelling. Teams are searching for him in his hometown, Balia, and his place of work. Hopefully, we will arrest him soon," said AC Sumit Shukla.
