HYDERABAD: A 26-year-old man was killed during a brawl at a public screening of a hit Telugu movie in Rajaram village in Jagtial's Mallial mandal on Sunday night. Another person suffered grievous injuries.
Gurram Praveen, who was chased and attacked by a rival group, died on the spot. Two brothers - Shivaratri Naresh and Shivaratri Bhagyaraj - were arrested and a case under IPC sections of murder and attempt to murder was slapped, Mallial police told TOI on Monday. Police said the screening was organised for the villagers when two groups of people, who nursed a grudge against each other, entered into a fight.
Praveen, who parked his two-wheeler near the house of Naresh, was about to kickstart his bike when a fracas broke out. Naresh family was irritated with the screeching sound the bike made. Naresh and Praveen have had previous enmity and bore a grudge against each other after a fight six months ago.
Angered by the bike noise, Naresh and Bhagyaraj went after Praveen and Venkatesh and attacked them with iron rods and sticks. While they rained blows on Venkatesh, Praveen was hit with a beer bottle, which resulted in his instantaneous death.
Police said they were probing if the brawl was a result of old enmity or a drinking stupor.
