Three Arrested over Death of Diamond Worker

April 11, 23 by John Jeffay

(IDEX Online) - Three people have been arrested over the death of a diamond polisher at a factory in India.

They are alleged to have tied him up the man, named as Haresh Bhaliya,  and to have beaten him after five diamonds disappeared at a factory in Thakkarbapanagar, in Gujurat state.

Police say the owner and two managers were arrested and that cases of murder and wrongful confinement have been registered.

The son of the dead man, Sunny Bhaliya, told local media his father had left five diamonds on a table while he went for a break, rather than handing them back to his manager for safe keeping.  When he returned, they had disappeared, he said.

After the alleged attack, workers from the factory took Haresh Bhaliya to hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival.
