Mamlatdar opens Maya Kelbai temple shut since March 26
Bicholim: Mamlatdar Rajaram Parab, who is also the administrator of temples for the Bicholim taluka, issued an order on Tuesday directing that the doors of the Maya Kelbai Panchayatan temple in Gaonkarwada, Mayem, be opened.
The temple has been closed since March 26 after the dispute between the Porobo Gaonkar mahajan and the Naik community over mahajan rights.
Mayem villagers and members of the Naik community, along with some Hindu associations, held a public meeting on Sunday during which they set a 48-hour deadline for the government to open the temple, following which they would open the temple and complete the celebration of the cancelled festival.
As the 48-hour deadline approached, the mamlatdar issued an order stating that the temple committee had agreed to open the doors of the temple. Accordingly, the mamlatdar opened the temple in the presence of a large number of devotees. The temple has been opened to avoid a conflict between the mahajans, sevekaris and villagers of Mayem village, the order stated.
It also stated that the temple priest Shivram Vaze or any of his family members should collect the temple keys from the managing committee every morning to perform the daily puja and thereafter hand them over to the managing committee once again.
Only the temple priest has the right to accept donations of money or any other item from devotees, and he should maintain a daily inventory of the same, the order stated.
