The Bombay High Court on Monday quashed the FIR against the man who allegedly sent rape threats to cricketer Virat Kohli and Bollywood actor Anushka Sharma’s daughter after India lost T-20 World Cup final match against Pakistan in 2021.

The FIR was filed against software engineer Ramnagesh Akubathini for posting threats on Twitter. However, a division bench of Justices AS Gadkari and PK Naik quashed the FIR after Kohli’a manager Aquillia D’Souza asked the court to grant consent to not proceed with charges against the accused.

Akubathini, a 23-year-old IIT graduate, was booked under Section 354A (sexual harassment), 506 (criminal intimidation), 500 (defamation) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), and Sections 67 & 67B of the IT Act 2000. The accused was already granted bail by a magistrate court on the ground that a prima facie case under Section 67B of the IT Act is not made out.

Akubathini, the state topper, was arrested by the Mumbai Police for allegedly sending lewd and threatening messages targeting Kohli’s infant daughter after India’s loss to Pakistan in T-20 World Cup final.

In February 2022, the accused filed a plea seeking to quash the FIR against him. He, in an application, claimed that as he was a meritorious student and a rank-holder in JEE (Advanced) exam, the continuation of criminal proceedings would cause severe prejudice to him.

He said that the IP address was not absolute proof that he had committed the act and that someone else could have caused havoc as well.

Akubathini was booked on November 8, 2021, and was there in police custody till November 16 before being sent to judicial custody. The magistrate then granted him bail on November 21, 2021, pointing out that the alleged tweets might not have been specifically directed at Kohli or his family.

Singh on Tuesday clarified her tweet and said her tweet was not directed to any specific person as it has been reported in media which is ill-conceived and looks motivated. She further said the reaction was the result of her general angst against the state of affairs prevalent in the world around.

She was then summoned by the Enforcement Directorate, the Central Bureau of Investigation, and the Narcotics Control Bureau along with her brother Showmik Chakraborty. However, all three central bodies did not find her guilty.

Bollywood actor Katrina Kaif’s mother, Suzanne Turquotte, has recently shared a post on Instagram about respect which Internet users believe is a dig at veteran actor Neetu Kapoor’s latest post on marriage and relationships.

Neetu Kapoor has been making headlines for a while now after she shared an Instagram story of a quote that reads, Just because he dated you for 7 years, it doesn’t mean he will marry you. My uncle studied medicine for 6 years, now he is a DJ.

People immediately started decoding the post as a sly dig at Katrina Kaif as she and Neetu Kapoor’s son and actor Ranbir Kapoor dated for several years before they called it quits. Now, Katrina’s mother has shared a cryptic post that people think is a response to Neetu Kapoor’s post.

The post reads, I was raised to treat the janitor with the same respect as the CEO.

Soon after, people started expressing their takes on the post. One of the users wrote, It is a general statement. But the timing is very specific. Another commented that it is a generic statement but the actor’s mother hasn’t posted lately which makes him believe that it’s a reply to Neetu Kapoor.

Katrina and Ranbir dated for several years before they parted ways in 2016. The actors have worked together in a few films such as Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani, Rajneeti and Jagga Jasoos.

Katrina Kaif and Ranbir Kapoor are now happily married to Vicky Kaushal and Alia Bhatt respectively. Ranbir and Alia also gave birth to a beautiful girl in November last year.
