YouTube has just announced some new features for its Premium subscribers. While you’d expect all those features to be available across Android, iOS, and other platforms simultaneously, that isn’t the case, at least for now.

Among those new features mentioned on YouTube’s official blog include better video quality at 1080p resolution. You would think it would land first on Android since it is Google’s own operating system, but that isn’t the case.

YouTube now offers higher quality 1080p videos, but not on Android

YouTube 1080p Premium Video Quality Option

YouTube has added a new video quality option called ‘1080p Premium.’ According to Google, it has “Enhanced Bitrate,” which makes videos look “extra crisp and clear,” and it will be particularly noticeable in videos that have “lots of detail and motion.” This new video quality option is available alongside the standard 1080p video quality option, but only in YouTube’s iOS and iPadOS apps.

So when are 1080p Premium quality videos coming to Android?

So, when is it coming to YouTube’s Android app? Well, Google says it is soon coming to the web, but there’s no information regarding its availability for Android. This feature could bring much better video quality to Samsung’s Galaxy smartphones and tablets, but there’s no official information about its availability on those devices.

While Google also talked about other features, including the ability to queue videos, resume videos from where you left them previously, and Smart Downloads, those features aren’t really new. If you were waiting for higher quality 1080p video streams, you would have to wait longer or use 4K resolution instead.
