Cong ‘grieves’ at one of AAP-laid stones over work not begun
Ludhiana: Hitting out against the Aam Aadmi Party-led state government for “only laying foundation stones instead of upgrading the infrastructure” in the city, the Congress party on Monday held a ‘condolence meeting’ at one such foundation stones in Ludhiana.
In a unique protest, the party members paid ‘tributes’ to a foundation stone in the old city area by lighting candles on it. The stone was laid for repair work at road between Lakshmi Cinema Chowk and Gurdwara Kalgidhar Chowk. However, the Congress claimed five months have since passed and the work hasn’t started.
Criticising the AAP leaders who laid the stone, the Congress claimed they were “misleading the people” by not starting the work here.
Senior Congress leader Parminder Mehta, who led the protest, said, “Ever since the AAP came into power, their publicity hungry ministers and MLAs are on an inauguration spree without even caring whether the work they are inaugurating is being completed or not. It is sad that dozens of inauguration stones have been put up in the city for various infrastructure related works, and majority of these have not been able to see the day of the light even after several months.”
Mehta added, “Today as a mark of our protest against the fake promises and publicity stunts of laying record number of inauguration stones by AAP leaders, we grieved over the foundation stone which was laid for the repair work of a road. It is sad that names of two MLAs have been engraved on it, but both of them did not care to check the progress of the work .”
Mehta warned that in case the AAP government fails to take notice of the incomplete works, the Congress party will stage a massive protest outside the district office of the AAP.
