Two quacks, clinic owner arrested near Coimbatore

COIMBATORE: The Karamadai police in Coimbatore district arrested two quacks and a clinic owner at Velliankadu on Monday evening.
Police said the two quacks claimed that they had pursued MBBS and MD courses in the Philippines. But they failed to produce the original documents.
The arrested people have been identified as M Sathish Kumaran, 26, of Kattambur village near Thiruppathur in Sivaganga district, G Bhuvaneshwaran, 28, of Emaneswaram village near Paramakudi in Ramanathapuram district and clinic owner S Jayajothi, 35, of Iyyasamy Nagar at Jothipuram in Coimbatore district. Jayajothi owned four medical shops in Karamadai and surrounding areas.
The trio were booked under Section 15 of the Indian Medical Council Act.
Dr Chandra, joint director of medical and rural health services in Coimbatore, got a tip off that a private clinic in the name of JJ had been functioning at Velliankadu near Karamadai more than three months and quacks practised allopathic medicines there. The team conducted a surprise check on Monday and questioned Sathish Kumaran and Bhuvaneshwaran who were working as doctors in the clinic.
Preliminary inquiries revealed that Jayajothi, who had completed Class XII, impersonated as a homeopathic doctor two years ago and met government doctor Manoj Prabhu who is currently working at the primary health centre at Thondamuthur in Coimbatore district. He collected the business card of Dr Manoj Prabhu. He used Dr Manoj Prabhu’s name and enrolment number on the JJ clinic nameboard without the latter’s knowledge. Three months ago, he appointed Sathish Kumaran and Bhuvaneshwaran as doctors in the clinic.
Health department officials seized allopathic medicine, syringes, and prescription pads from the clinic. Dr Chandra lodged a complaint with the Karamadai police who registered a case against the trio. They were remanded in judicial custody.
