Med colleges allocate hospitals to PG students for district residency
Jaipur: With three-month District Residency Programme (DRP) being made mandatory in district health system for PG students of broad specialty, medical colleges of the state have started allocating district hospitals and sub-district hospitals to PG students at medical colleges from the current academic session.
The DRP will provide PG students exposure to healthcare system at district hospitals and hospitals below district hospital rank. Besides, it will also fulfil shortage of doctors in district and sub-district hospitals.
DRP was made mandatory for all the students from 2021 batch, said a health department official. It is also mandatory for private medical college and deemed universities’ students. The official said that under DRP, all the doctors admitted to PG courses 2022 onwards will have to serve in the district hospitals for three months compulsorily.
“Satisfactory completion of the DRP is essential for appearing in PG final examination,” said Dr Sangeeta Saxena, principal and controller, Kota medical college in an order issued by her on April 5.
In Kota medical college, 44 resident doctors have now been allocated district and sub-district hospitals and they must submit the joining report to the chief medical health officer (CMHO) of the district on April 12. Allotments have been done in other medical colleges of the state as well.
The certificate of satisfactory completion of DRP will be given from CMHO of the district or principal medical officer of the district hospital. A medical college-wise list of hospitals has also been prepared which will be allotted to PG students.
The SMS medical college PG students can complete their DRP from 14 government hospitals in Kotputli, Bandikui, Dausa, Sikrai, Jhunjhunu, Shahpura, Chaksu, Bassi, Dudu, Phagi, Jamwaramgarh, Alwar, Mahua and Makrana. Different medical colleges have different hospitals assigned for the DRP.
