Varanasi: Application of police to seek custody of Bhojpuri singer Samar Singh, main accused in Akanksha Dubey abetment to suicide case, was heard in the court of Surbhi Pathak, civil judge (junior division) Fast Track Court, on Monday. The judge ordered for Samar to be produced before the court on Tuesday.
Samar was arrested from Ghazibad and produced before remand magistrate on Saturday after which he was sent to jail. On Monday, hearing began on the application of police to seek Samar’s 72-hour custody remand for further interrogation in Akanksha Dubey suicide case. For Samar, a team of defence lawyers appeared before the court.
His advocate Anuj Yadav said the team sought a copy of police application for Samar’s custody in order to file objection.
District government counsel (criminal) Alok Chandra Shukla said court fixed Tuesday to continue the hearing on the plea for Samar’s police custody remand. The court also asked to produce Samar before it on Tuesday, he added.
In their application, police have mentioned that Samar was arrested from Ghaziabad but his mobile phone could not be recovered. As Samar’s mobile contains vital information and evidence of the case, police are seeking his custody remand.
Akanksha was found dead in her room at Sumendra Residency hotel in Sarnath area of the city March 26 morning. Earlier, At 2.25 am on the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday, the actress was live on Instagram and was weeping. After lodging an FIR against Bhojpuri singer Samar Singh and his brother Sanjay Singh under section 306 (abetment of suicide) in this connection, her mother Madhu Dubey on March 27 alleged that Akanksha worked with Samar for the past three years but he did not pay her though the dues had gone up to Rs 3 crore.
She also alleged that whenever Akanksha sought her payment Samar tortured her and also used to harass her whenever she tried to work with other artists.
