Monsoon season expected to be normal in 2023: IMD

During the press conference of ‘Long Range Forecast for Southwest Monsoon 2023’, India Meteorological Department Director General Mrutyunjay Mohapatra on April 11 said that monsoon season is expected to be normal in 2023. “During June-September, there is a 67 per cent probability of monsoon rainfall for normal to above normal rainfall. There is a highest probability of 35 per cent for normal rainfall during June to September against the climatology probability of 33 per cent. Both the probabilistic rainfall and deterministic rainfall are suggesting that rainfall during monsoon season 2023 is expected to be normal category,” said IMD DG Mrutyunjay Mohapatra. “El Nino conditions are likely to develop during the monsoon season and its impact may be seen during the second half of the season,” he added.
