Ostracised couple petition collector

Salem: A couple on Monday petitioned district collector (in charge) P Menaka seeking action against their relatives and villagers for ostracising them from the village.
A Senthil Kumar, 43, of Arasampalayam near Veerapandi, married S Janaki, 33, of Yercaud, belonging to the Scheduled Tribe (ST) caste. The couple has a son. Senthil Kumar was running a grocery store in Yercaud. He returned to Arasampalayam after ending business in Yercaud.
He alleged that his relatives and villagers asked the couple not to attend temple festivals. “They also threatened us not to participate in any of the events in the village,” he alleged.
He said that he had shifted five houses in the village so far as the villagers threatened the owners of the houses. “Now, the present house owner is asking us to vacate the building as early as possible,” he said.
After receiving the petition, Menaka forwarded it to SP Dr R Sivakumar for investigation. tnn
