LUCKNOW: Uttar Pradesh will plant 35 crore saplings across the state in a single day in the first week of July this year.
The record feat will be achieved as part of the state's resolve to combat the ill-effects of climate change, said Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath at the inauguration of the two-day 'National Climate Conclave-2023' organized at Indira Gandhi Pratishthan on Monday.
Insisting that India has always followed environment-friendly traditions, the CM stressed on striking a balance between development and environment protection. "Development is necessary, but obligations towards environment and nature must not be forgotten," the Chief Minister said, adding that, "The excessive exploitation of nature for selfish gains leads to consequences which are not conducive to any life form."
Pointing out the challenge of climate change across the world, the Chief Minister said, "You must be experiencing unexpectedly heavy rains these days. In the past, the monsoon used to arrive around June 15, but last year we saw no rain in June, very little rain in July, and drought in August."
