AHMEDABAD: Krishnanagar police arrested two managers and the owner of a diamond unit, for allegedly holding a worker captive and beating him to death. The worker, Haresh Bhaliya, did not deposit five diamonds with his manager and left them on the table when he went for tea. These diamonds went missing.
The complainant said that according to the rules of the diamond processing industry, when a worker leaves his table for refreshment or any other work, he has to deposit the diamonds with the manager. In this case, Haresh left them on the table and went for a cup of tea, and the diamonds went missing.
Krishnanagar police inspector A J Chauhan said after the complaint was registered, the owner of the unit, Dharmesh Moradiya, and his managers, Mukesh Vaghasiya and Vijay Gajjar, were arrested. A case of murder and wrongful confinement among other charges have been registered in the case.
Haresh's son, Sunny, stated that his father working in diamond polishing for 15 years at various units in the city. On Sunday evening, his father had gone to Moradiya's unit. He said Vaghasiya had given him five diamonds for polishing and cutting. Haresh's co-workers told Sunny that his father had gone out for tea and had not deposited the diamonds with the manager. Vaghasiya then went out and brought Haresh back to the unit. Sunny's was told that when the managers asked him about the diamonds, Haresh said he had left them on the table. As the diamonds were missing, Vaghasiya and Gajjar called Moradiya. The three then assaulted Haresh and locked him in a room. His co-workers took him to Civil Hospital, where he was declared 'brought dead'.
