Those arrested include Khalid alias Dangri alias Bhuriyo Charkha, Irfan Sheikh, Faisal Sheikh and Sufiya Pathan, all residents of Godhra in Panchmahal district. Two other accused, Ramesh and Suleman Kathdi, were still at large, said police, adding that they have recovered 5,000 kg cumin from the arrested accused.
According to the police, the LCB team got information that a truck full of cumin had arrived at the Jamjodhpur market yard. The cops kept a watch and impounded the vehicle near Dadiya village. When asked about the documents of the truck and the goods inside it, the accused could not provide a satisfactory answer or documents. Police detained the four accused and during questioning, they admitted to having stolen the stock from a parked truck in Jodiya.
LCB police inspector J V Chaudhary said that the gang operated in four states — Gujarat, Maharashtra, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh. They used to steal goods from trucks parked near highway hotels and petrol pumps during the night. The gang was active in the four states for the last five years. A number of offences have been registered against the gang members in different police stations of the four states, said Chaudhary.
