Gumla: A stray tusker has demolished at least 10 houses in villages under Chainpur, Dumri and Albert Ekka blocks under Kurumgarh forest range of Gumla forest division for the past 10 days.
“The elephant with one broken tusk has damaged around 10 houses in this range in a gap of 8 to 10 days. It has chosen its habitat in the dense Shrinagar forest in Chainpur block," said forest guard Shivkumar Oraon.
Gumla DFO Ahmad Belal Anwar said, “It's still reported to be stationed in Shrinagar forest from where it moved towards different direction and caused damages to local habitations. Our team is tracking its movement. On Monday, the residents of this forest range were alerted about the movement of the elephant. They have been asked not to venture out before dawn and after dusk into forests." “Crackers have been given to residents of affected hamlets while torches are also being given away among them," the DFO added.
