Vadodara: A leopard carcass was found from a village in Waghodia taluka on Saturday evening. One of its hind legs was, however, found to be missing when some people passing from the area in Vyara village spotted it. Forest officials have launched investigations in the incident.
“The animal’s jaws and nails of other three legs are intact. We are investigating the incident and ascertaining its cause of death,” said Dr Anshuman Sharma, conservator of forests, Vadodara circle.
“I got information about the dead leopard following which I sent my team to the spot. The forest department should conduct detailed investigation in the case. It may be a case of poaching too,” said Hemant Vadhwana, wildlife activist.
Forest officials said that there are injury marks on the abdomen of the leopard and some portion of it seems to have been eaten. “The area where it was found doesn’t fall under the forest department,” a forest official said.
