Chirag Paswan attends RJD's iftar party, mocks Bihar CM Nitish Kumar for opposition unity bid

PATNA: LJP (RV) president Chirag Paswan on Sunday attended the iftar party hosted by the RJD's first family at the residence of former chief minister Rabri Devi. Chirag is the first leader from the opposition camp in Bihar to join the iftar party as BJP has been opposing any such feast by citing communal disturbances in Biharsharif and Sasaram recently. Another important attendee was former Madhepura MP Pappu Yadav.
Witnesses said Chirag took the blessings from Rabri and also from CM Nitish Kumar, who was present with his several cabinet colleagues and party leaders, by touching their feet before settling on his seat as he received warm welcome from deputy CM and Rabri's son Tejashwi Prasad Yadav. Curiously, Chirag stayed away from the iftar hosted by Nitish recently despite invitation extended to him. "Last year, too, I had attended the iftar party hosted by RJD," Chirag told the media. Outside the iftar, however, Chirag attacked Nitish over his campaign for opposition unity and the prevailing law and order situation in the state. "I don't think he (Nitish) will succeed. When there are so many leaders with ambition to become PM, then it is simply impossible that they will accept him as their leader," said Chirag. Moreover, parties like Congress, Trinamool Congress, AAP and SP have more legislators than Nitish's. "In such a situation, why would they accept a person with just 40+ MLAs as their leader?" he asked and also said Nitish failed to contain crime and corruption in the state.
