‘Either open Maya Kelbai temple in 48 hours or we will’
Bicholim: Mayem villagers and the Naik community members of Maya Kelbai Panchayatan Devasthan of Gaonkarwada have set a 48-hour deadline for the government to open Maya Kelbai temple. The people warned that if the mamlatdar does not heed the deadline, they along with other devotees will open the shrine on their own on Tuesday.
The temple has been closed since March 28 following a dispute over Mahajan rights.
On Sunday, the Naik community members along with the locals and some members of Bajrang Dal, Gomantak Parshuram Sena, Bharat Mata Ki Jai, and other Hindu associations held a public meeting. The Tuesday 5pm deadline was decided in the meeting.
The villagers and their associates will submit a memorandum to the Bicholim mamlatdar on Monday, requesting him to open the temple. They said that if the government fails to open the temple, they will open it themselves and celebrate the festivity that had been cancelled.
The meeting was attended by Bajrang Dal mahamantri Vinayak Tari, Gomantak Parshuram Sena president Shailendra Velingkar, and others.
