HYDERABAD: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast a scorching week ahead with yellow and orange alerts for high temperatures in Telangana, including Hyderabad.
The arid and torrid conditions will cause temperatures to surge between 40° and 45° Celsius, as predicted by the meterological department.
The impact of heat will commence from Monday when the entire state is on yellow alert. Districts such as Jayshankar Bhupalpally, Karimnagar, Rajanna Siricilla, Nalgonda, Suryapet, Khammam, and Bhadradri Kothagudem will be on orange alert, with temperatures soaring up to 45° Celsius.
The IMD has predicted heatwave-like conditions on April 12 and 13, with temperatures expected to be 2-4° Celsius above normal all across Telangana, putting Hyderabad on orange alert as well. It may be recalled here that the IMD had already predicted heatwaves in Telangana from the second week of April, with temperatures likely to soar above 45° Celsius. If the temperature rises 5° above normal, it will be declared a heatwave.
Meanwhile, on Sunday, the state witnessed a surge in temperatures, with Balaji Nagar in Kukatpally recording the highest temperature in the Greater Hyderabad limits at 37.7° Celsius, and Ghanpur recording the highest temperature in Telangana at 41.9° Celsius.
