Margao: Chief officer of the Margao Municipal Council (MMC) Manuel Barretto has said that a plan with a timeline to dispose of the waste accumulated in the Sonsoddo shed will be submitted to the High Court in the next two days.

The High Court was hearing the Margao municipality and the Goa Waste Management Corporation (GWMC) in the writ petition filed by citizens of Sonsoddo on the Sonsoddo legacy waste issue on Monday.

The said court has also asked the MMC to submit the action plan on tackling the day-to-day generated waste.

“We had submitted a plan to the court on how we would be clearing the accumulated waste from the shed. But the court has asked us to give the timeline along with a plan. So we will be submitting the same in the next two days,” Barretto said.

It is informed that a comprehensive plan from the MMC and GWMC was also sought by the court.It may be recalled that the court had ordered the MMC and GWMC to complete the remediation works by February-end this year.

The GWMC had claimed to have completed the remediation work and had said that the inert needs to be shifted. The court had also observed that there was no treatment of daily generated waste of the MMC and hence had asked for some action plan.
